A wireless USB hub - short life or incredible innovation you decide

belkin_uwb.jpg

In a time where everything runs on USB and you keep running out of ports, this is a very cool innovation. The Belkin USB hub is wireless, using Motorola ultra wideband technology (which is said to be a hundred times faster than bluetooth). Think for a second, i could plug in my drink cooler, fan, extra drives, camera and still have them wireless - oh to the endless possibilities...

The other logical question is will USB continue to dominate as the peripheral integration method of choice? Or will a wireless technology or Firewire or something else come of age. With many of today's desktop pc's offering 8-12 usb 2.0 ports is it even necessary?

You decide, Belkin will release this in the next few months prices is expected to be about $130 usd

Oh Steve we love them apples

new-imac-g5.jpg

it is absolutely geeky but i sat and watched all of the recent webcast of Apples "One More Thing" announcement on October 13. By now you will all be aware of the amazing new iMac, the video iPod (2 weeks after I stupidly upgraded to a 60gb photo version believing the video was a myth this year) and the other snazzy functionality.

Apple is doing things in a way you just have to stand up and admire, as one lost from the Apple fold for nearly a decade it is good to be back!

Streamers

LinkTheater-large.jpg

There are a whole bunch of streamers on the market, as I predicted some 8-10 months ago, the hot product for christmas is video and everybody wants to get the media they have been busily encoding onto the pc back off and play through the TV or the hifi.

well that's where this beauty comes in and it really is a lovely player, with only one major fault - but we will get to that in a moment. Firstly it has a nicely integrated, remoted driven user interface, this means you have a great TV like experience for browsing your photos or selecting which album you want to play.

The LinkTheatre supports a huge range of formats including DivX, WMA, WMV, WMV-HD etc.. It plays out as either standard definition or HD TV, and it has a bunch of USB ports on the front for you thumb drives.

But that shoppers is not all - no this little hottie comes with 802.11g WiFi (Grrrr - I hear you all say) yes it really does whip in and discover all your media just the way the media centre PC promised it would and all for only approx $449 AUD.

So whats wrong with it??? well the only thing I could find is that there is no published support for AAC and that means all the music I have encoded using iTunes is pretty useless. So this particular box is not the one for me but it is a great jump in the right direction.

- damm just posted this and went back to re-read all of the formats it supports, and would you believe it does fully support AAC and M4A so there is no reason not to whip out and buy one for $449 it also includes a DVD player - what more do you need?

av500_argos.jpg

so this is 30gb and they are talking about expanding it to 100gb by the end of the year. Plays music, pictures and MP3s. But that is not where it ends.. It has a TV doc for recording and playback on your TV, it supports DivX, MP3, WMA, WAV, MPEG4, WMV and PlaysForSure WMV, BMP and JPG the video plays back at a max res of 720 x 576 pixels.

Let the portable video fest really begin

the next best phone toy

motorola-q.jpg

its just one of those things, you either love smart phones or you are dumb... well maybe that is a little harsh, and quite often the early smart phones have not operated quite the way we hoped they might, but that just left us wanting more. The nifty integration of the calendar into the homepage, the cutdown versions of software this is really good.

So here it all is - and delivered by a company that is famous for making phones! On top of that its RAZR thin.

grrrr check it out at motorola.com you are going to want one!

How cool is this - dial in where you want to see and there is the satellite image right in front of you. Ok the information is a little US centric but lets face it - this rocks.
